Geotechnical Engineer

We are looking for a person for the position of Geotechnical Engineer in the Mining Technical Services department. Position also includes work in Bioleaching department. You will be carrying out geotechnical modelling and monitoring of the open-pit and heaps and ensure that geotechnical risks are effectively identified, managed and controlled.

Responsibilities

• Development of slope monitoring solutions like radars and InSAR
• Develop and execute ground control management plan
• Provide weekly risk assessments and reports on the geotechnical status of the open pit
• Assist in providing technical advice for bioleaching department geotechnical issues
• Data analysis and geotechnical modelling together with mine planning and geology teams to ensure that geomechanical properties influencing open pit slope stability are properly understood
• Provide hands on support for geotechnical data collection from open pit and drill cores.

Qualifications and experience

• University Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or Rock Mechanics
• Previous work experience in geotechnical engineering roles or experience from open pit environment
• Ability to use or learn standard geotechnical modelling software
• Willingness to work on field
• Fluent in English. Finnish is an advantage.
